Tenuta Fanti
Tenuta Fanti
Brunello di Montalcino
The Tenuta Fanti estate has belonged to the Fanti family since the beginning of the eighteenth century. It extends across 300 hectares in Toscana, 52 hectares of which are specialized certified sustainable vineyards, 110 hectares are olive orchards, 80 hectares are used for seed plots, and 70 hectares are forests. Made from 20-30 year old vines, this Brunello fermented over 25 days in stainless before aging 28 months a mix of French oak barrels and 3,000L Slavonian oak vats. The wine then aged in bottle for one year prior to release.
"Offering dark fruit and an articulate bouquet with elements of ripeness and balsamic herb, the Fanti 2019 Brunello di Montalcino releases its aromas in swells of licorice, dark plum, cured tobacco and sweet potting soil. In terms of palate, this Brunello delivers much of its intensity in an upfront manner with a blast of ripe fruit that fades quietly over the mid-palate. The tannins are softly integrated. This wine, with a production of 49,000 bottles, will be almost ready to drink after its release in January 2024. Drink 2024-2039.” - 94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate.

Clos Lentiscus
Clos Lentiscus
Perill Blanc Amphora Xarel-lo
This is 1938-planted Xarel-lo from El Buschet vineyard, in the mineral-laden Garraf Mountains sub zone. After picking and leaving with stems on skins for 15 days, this spends 6 months in amphora before a light filtration and bottling. Bright and tart with tangerine, fragrant kumquat, and crunchy Asian pear along a slight 12% palate, this is lightly gripped by skins through a brief, astringent finish. Quite natural and pure expression of the grape.

Riesling Ried Burgstall
The Burgstall vineyard refers to a crag bedrock plateau towering 30 metres above, bordering Unterloiben to the east. This sun drenched, wind swept vineyard is situated at the westernmost end of this rock terrace, and the soils consist of pure gneiss and granite, with a shallow topsoil of sand. Bone dry and energetic, with crunchy green apple, Asian pear, lemon pith, verbena strung across a buzzy granitic baseline. Whiffs of elderflower and struck stone scent the juicy, vibrant palate, finishing with lingering lime pith and saline notes. Lovely energy here in this pure riesling, drinking smartly now, and with time ahead.

Grüner Veltliner Ried Klostersatz
Founded in Oberloiben in 1898, the Pichler estate has developed a reputation as a Grüner Veltliner specialist since Franz Pichler Sr began selecting his own clones in 1928. His grandson son Lucas joined the winery team in 1996, taking over winemaking at the estate in 1999 and assuming management of the whole estate in 2009. Lucas manages the winery together with his wife Johanna, representing the 5th generation to farm these lands. The Ried Klostersatz is one of the oldest vineyards in the Wachau to be cultivated by the monks of Bavarian and Salzburg monasteries. It is situated in the Loibner basin, within the curve of the Danube river between Dürnstein and Oberloiben. The fine sandy topsoil is overlying gravels that have washed down from the Alps. Bone dry and tight with apple skin, lees, and stones, the brisk acidity of this organic GV is countered with subtle meadow grasses, all held by ample tension throughout the lengthy finish. Uncompromising and pure rock juice.
"Here’s a wonderfully racy, medium-bodied gruner veltliner with Reine Claude plum fruit and wild herb aromas that make this very expressive. Long, very clean finish. From a gravelly soil on the plain between the terraced hillside sites and the bank of the Danube. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold. Grüner Veltliner Loibner
The name LOIBEN (for the area of the cadastral communities Oberloiben and Unterloiben) is the designation of origin of this Wachau DAC village wine. The organic vineyards are situated on the plains of the Loibner basin, with light and warm soils made of alluvial Danube sand and gravel. Tight and sleek, with pear skin, green apple, Asian pear, apple blossom, subtle verbena on a gently buzzy base. Nice streamline form, that lingers on the finish.
"Very fresh and vibrant, but with good substance on the medium-bodied palate, this is a prototypical Danube gruner veltliner. Lovely yellow apple and lime freshness in the very clean finish. From parcels with sandy soil close to the bank of the river. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink now. Screw cap.” - 91 points, Stuart Pigott, Senior Editor, JamesSuckling.com

Grüner Veltliner Durnsteiner
This wine comes predominantly from younger organically farmed terraced mountain vineyard plots around the village of Dürnstein. This sleek GV streams meadow grass, green apple, crushed stone across a textural frame, with ample buzzy energy through a saline finish. Very smart, drinking beautifully now.
"The impressive interplay of restrained richness and very animating mineral acidity is what gives this excellent gruner veltliner its pronounced personality. Long, wild herb finish that’s simultaneously compact and refreshing. A cuvee of about half vineyards on the plain and half young vines on the steep, terraced vineyards of the region. From organically grown grapes. Vegan. Drink or hold. Screw cap.” - 94 points, Stuart Pigott, Senior Editor, JamesSuckling.com

Only 2% of Chinon is planted to white, so when you find a Chinon Blanc, you know you're in for a special Chenin Blanc experience. This organically farmed Chenin comes mostly from Ligré's chalky, limestone clay soils, and was native cool fermented in stainless, to preserve the bright, fresh, very special character of chenin on limestone. Bright and shining, with lemon, verbena, and quince blossom running a sleek palate, with a subtle, alluring Chenin waxiness that takes this to a saline finish. Reserve Pinot Noir
Blanville
Réserve Pinot Noir
Château Haut-Blanville is a family-owned Languedoc wine estate that was founded in 1997 by Béatrice & Bernard Nivollet. Their 70 ha of vineyards extend across The Grés de Montpellier AOP, stretching from the Hérault middle valley to the Vidourle, and from the Mediterranean in the south to the Pic Saint-Loup in the north. Wines are produced naturally, without the use of any additions except a minimal amount of sulphur upon bottling. This pinot noir comes from the limestone and basalt soils of Pézenas at 100-150m, on a cool, north-facing single vineyard. Downy plum, wild blueberry and perfumed cherry flood the medium palate, framed with fine, sticky tannins and brightened with easy acidity through a saline finish. Pretty smart PN for an amazing price.

Blanc de Blancs Brut
This is primarily based on the previous 4 vintages, with 35% of reserve wine blended from the 5 previous vintages to that, and with fruit coming from 3 villages in the heart of les coteaux du petit Morin and la côte de Sézanne : Etoges, Villevenard, Allemant. This spent 48 months on lees and 12 months in bottle post-disgorgement, with 9 g/L dosage. A lovely tight frame carries deep chalk, lemon pith laced with fine salinity through the lingering finish. Very polished and smart, this easily eats up the dosage.

Podere 414

Morellino di Scansano
Owned by Simone Castelli, Podere 414 is a certified organic estate with 13 hectares of vines, situated in western Tuscany, straddling a river near Scansano. From the region's very stony soils, this morellino (sangiovese) is splashed with colorino, ciliegiolo, alicante, and syrah. Each variety is vinified separately before the blend goes into two year old barriques for one year, followed by additional bottle age before release. Sultry wild cherry and dark florals are imbued with balsam and scrubby herbs, wrapped by finely sticky tannins that draw this through the stony, lingering finish. Bright acidity makes this imminently drinkable, through it is certainly worth cellaring for the next couple of years.

Le Ragnaie
Le Ragnaie
Rosso di Montalcino
Unlike many Rosso di Montalcino that often is composed of the inferior barrels for Brunello, this is a site-specific bottling treated every step along the way like Riccardo's Brunello offerings. The Castelnuovo vineyard is situated in Castelnuovo dell'Abate on a steep hillside with Mastrojanni's Vigna Schiena d'Asino on one side and Poggio di Sotto on the other. After a long, cool natural fermentation in concrete, this is racked to 25-50L Slavonian vats where it rests quietly on lees for 24 months prior to bottling with no fining. Fragrant and fresh with black cherries, balsamic, herbs and spices. Medium-bodied, it is round and smooth on the palate, to a lengthy, bitter cherry finish. Elegant now, it will continue to gain in complexity with a few years in the cellar.
“Here's a charming wine from Le Ragnaie. The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is released one year later than its peers after spending two years in Slavonian botte and extra time in cement. That extra year translates into seamless fruit integration. In truth, the wine is on the timid side now, but I am confident that it will flesh out and blossom aromatically with another year or two of bottle age. It excels in terms of its balanced freshness, and there are pretty flavors of sour berry and cassis on the silky finish. Fruit is assembled from various vineyard parcels. Production is 39,000 bottles. Drink date 2025 – 2038.” 94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

The Rosé Extra Brut is labeled NV, but this bottle is from a single harvest (2021), and blends 93% chardonnay (from Chouilly and Montgueux), 7% pinot noir (from Les Riceys), native fermented in stainless, with a small amount of the pinot noir fermenting in wood. This rests for two years on lees before being disgorged with 3.4g/L, in September 2024. This recent release has great fresh cut, with wild raspberry and fragrant strawbaerry at the fore, a crunchy green apple core, and tart, tight red currant acidity to drive through a cherry blossom finish.

Arbois Trousseau
Trousseau vines (30 years old) were planted in Montigny-les-Arsures, on hillsides on the localities of Chagnon and L'Euvrin, as well as Arbois' Montesserin, in red marl and clay soils. After destemming (with a small amount of stems) this was native fermented with 15 days’ maceration before resting 10 months primarily in foudres and oak, with a small part stainless. Light cherry hue, this charms with perfumed wildflowers, wild raspberry, fine pink pepper, with fine, long tannins structuring through a saline finish. Very graceful and elegant.

Loureiro
Vasco Croft is one of the pioneering biodynamic vintners in Portugal, and Aphros is his personal project. From Vinho Verde's Lima subregion, this loureiro spent time on skins before pressing into inox for fermentation and two months ageing on lees before filtration and bottling. Tight and zippy with lime, lemon verbena, mandarin, melon on a slight (11%), skippy, stony palate, with a subtle granite buzz on the finish. Not your typical floral Loureiro.
"The 2023 Loureiro is similar to the Ten. Its from the direct pressing of the grapes and fermented in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts at a slightly higher temperature, so it's a little less exuberant but with a subtle note of honey and beeswax intermixed with the white fruit and flowers. It didn't go through malolactic fermentation and has slightly higher maturity, with 10.5% alcohol, and better balance. 55,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2024 after two months with lees but without bâtonnage. Drink 2024-2027.” - 90 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, March 27, 2025

Luis Seabra
Luis Seabra
Xisto Ilimitado Branco
Ilimitado is akin to Seabra's village wine. This Branco comes from mica, schist, and feldspar soils (what winemaker Luis Seabra deems the best for whites), this is a field blend of rabigato, códega, gouveio, vioshino and more, with vines 30-60 years old, and at 400-500m in altitude. After crushing and destemming, the grapes are pressed together, native fermented, and aged in used French oak barrels for 1 year on lees, with full MLF and no bâtonnage. Perfumed pear blossom, gooseberry, green fig, and lemon are woven across the stony palate, tightened with grapefruit pith, and stretched long on the lingering, saline finish. Great energy here.
"This has aromas of sliced green apples, orchard fruit, fennel and a touch of flint. Medium- to full-bodied and fresh, with texture and pleasant phenolics. Long and persistent. Incredible value. A blend of multiple vineyards in Douro Superior. 60% rabigato, 15% gouveio, 15% codega and 10% viosinho. Made from 30-45 year old vines. Aged for 12 months in used barrels. Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Donatella Cinelli Colombini
Brunello di Montalcino
From the organic Casato Prime Donne property, this Brunello comes from vineyards on the cooler northern side, around 225 m altitude, on soils rich in clay and silt. The native fermentation takes place in small stainless and bare concrete, after which it rests in older tonneaux and big barrels for at least 2 years, followed by a period of at least 6 months in bottles. From the stellar 2019 vintage, this structural wine rolls across the palate with waves of crushed florals, sultry cherry, deep plum, leather, and dark cocoa, wrapped with ample chewy tannins, and finishing with a trailing dried florals and tobacco. Very harmonious, and will reward with some time in cellar.
"Black-cherry, lavender and rosemary-flower aromas with hints of spices and stems, following through to a medium body with firm and silky tannins that show integration and presence. Slightly chewy. But it’s polished and real. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2026.” - 94 points, James Suckling, September 25, 2023

Brunello di Montalcino Prime Donne
Montalcino’s Casato Prime Donne is made up of 40 organic hectares, 16 of which are planted to Sangiovese. There is also a modern, artistic, fresco-filled winery and ageing facility for the Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino wines. The entire staff is female, including the head winemaker, and Donatella has become a beacon for women in the wine industry, not only in Italy, but globally. Donatella noticed that wine critics for the Italian wine guides were all men. She decided then to unite a small group of talented women wine professionals, asking them to blind taste future Brunello from different barrels, and to select the best lots. Donatella considers this result, the Brunello Prime Donne, the flagship for her wineries.
Sangiovese from the clay-limestone Ardita Vineyard surrounding the winery at 250m, was handpicked and fermented on skins for 15 days in stainless and unlined concrete. It was then moved to 5-7hl French tonneaux, before finishing in traditional 15-40hl oak barrels from Slavonia for 2.5 years. Prior to being bottled, unfiltered, the wine rested in unlined concrete vats. Prime Donne is a powerful Brunello destined for a long ageing. Fragrant wild cherry and raspberry flows through this graceful, structural wine, layered with medicinal cassis, leather, balsam, and crushed stones. Tannins are long and finely firm, well integrated into the lifted, stony fruit, and guide this to a lingering scrubby herb finish. Quite special, and from the lauded 2019 vintage, this is drinking beautifully now, and with time ahead in your cellar. Only 6,000 bottles produced.
"Notes of menthol and anise complement the cherry, plum, mineral and tobacco flavors in this expressive red, which is backed by a steely structure, with assertive tannins lining the extended aftertaste. Intense and delineated. Best from 2026 through 2043." - 96 points, Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, March 20, 2024.
“The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Progetto Prime Donne is a seductress enticing with exotic spice, rubbed sage, cedar, dusty rose, and dried strawberry aromas. Cool-toned and classic in feel, it washes across the palate with seamlessly silky textures that balance tart wild berries with vibrant acidity. Tactile minerals add grip toward the close. This finishes dramatically long and staining, leaving violet inner florals to mingle with orange as a web of fine tannins frame the experience perfectly. The 2019 is the most balanced and complex rendition of Prime Donne I’ve yet encountered.” - 95+ points, Eric Guido, Vinous.

E Pira & Figli - Chiara Boschis
Barolo Via Nuova
One of 3 Barolo released by Chiara this year, with vinification and aging are kept the same across the three to highlight the differences of the terroir. Barolo Via Nuova comes from 6 different organic cru located in three different villages: Barolo (Terlo – Liste); Monforte d’Alba (Ravera di Monforte – Mosconi); and Serralunga d’Alba (Gabutti e Baudana). All told, these 2.5 hectares sit at 340m, and face southeast. After a native ferment in stainless, with frequent pumping over and punch downs, all of the Baroli were aged in lightly toasted 30% new French oak for 24 months, and one year further in the bottle prior to release. Fragrant black cherry, wild plum, dark raspberry streak along the structured, stony palate, vibrant with lofty acidity, and centered by firm, long tannins. All is scented with crushed florals, balsam, and black tea, which lingers on the saline finish. Super smart now, and I can't wait to retry in 10 years.
“The 2020 Barolo Via Nuova is stellar. It clearly benefits from a blend of several sites. Dark cherry, gravel, spice, menthol, licorice and dried herbs all build in this potent, structured Barolo. As always, the blend includes Paiagallo, Liste, Terlo, Gabutti, Baudana, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi—an approach that works so well. This is a stellar showing from Chiara Boschis. Drinking window 2026 - 2040.” - 96 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous

Barolo Mosconi
One of 3 Barolo released by Chiara this year, with vinification and aging, is kept the same across the three to highlight the differences of the terroir. Barolo Mosconi comes from a single vineyard of a newly acquired property in Monforte d’Abla. This 0.8-hectare site’s 70 year old vines rest at 400m in clay soils, facing south. After a native ferment in stainless, with frequent pumping over and punch downs, all of the Baroli were aged in lightly toasted 30% new French oak for 24 months and one year further in the bottle before release. Fragrant wild cherry, medicinal raspberry, and roses fill the palate of this powerful Barolo, bedded with subtle candle wax and scented with scrubby herbs. The ample sticky tannins lead this to a ferrous, saline finish. Very much in youth, this has ample time ahead in the cellar.
“The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Mosconi has some of the extra ripeness of the vintage with cherry cream syrup, grenadine, watermelon candy and a drop of Pastis. The wine ends on a powerful note with a balanced combination of fruit and fine oak tannins. The palate is very alive, and the fruit feels very vibrant at this young stage. Some 9,000 bottles were made. Drink Date 2026 - 2045.” - 96 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Barolo Cannubi
One of 3 Barolo released by Chiara this year, with vinification and aging, is kept the same across the three to highlight the differences of the terroir. From the famed Cannubi vineyard, this 0.7-hectare plot sits at 300m and faces S/SW. After a native ferment in stainless, with frequent pumping over and punch downs, all of the Baroli were aged in lightly toasted 30% new French oak for 24 months and one year further in the bottle before release. Deep, dark, and fleshy, this is woven with thorny blackberry, stony minerality, and plush dark plum coursing through the savoury, structural palate. Tannins are firm and fine, guiding this through a lingering stony, bitter espresso, and orange rind finish. Still very much in youth, this has the acidity and structure to age for a couple of decades in your cellar.
“The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2020 Barolo Cannubi is a fine and delicate wine, although there is a little more grit and richness in this warm vintage. The quality of the fruit is exceptional, especially its crisp ripeness. Dark cherry, blackcurrant, rose blossom, pink pepper and white limestone add considerable high-toned notes. The freshness is great and the fruit stays juicy, fueling a long, elegant finish. Only 4,000 bottles were made. Drink Date 2026 - 2048.” - 97 points, Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate

Langhe Nebbiolo
From the MGA Le Coste, in Monforte d’Alba, and grapes from the 'Bell of Respect' off the vineyards near their non-organic neighbours, this Nebbiolo is rooted in calcareous clays at 400m. After a stainless ferment, this aged 1 year in French barriques. Pretty wild strawberry, cherry, and raspberry stream through the fine, firm palate, with long and lithe tannins, and easy lofted acidity to carry this through a lingering saline finish.

Dolcetto d’Alba
This organic Dolcetto comes off Ravera di Monforte d’Alba, Mosconi, and Le Coste di Monforte d’Alba, and clay lime marls, around 400m. It was fermented and aged in stainless for a few months. Cushy crushed plum, jammy strawberry, pink florals flood a pretty, 12% palate, with finely strident tannins to frame, and bright, tart acidity to lift. Drinking now.

Barbera d'Alba Superiore
From organic Mosconi, Ravera, and Gabutti vineyards in Monforte d’Alba and Serralunga, and a mix of clay lime marls around 350m, this was fermented in stainless, and aged 12 months in French barriques. Crushed cassis, wild blackberry runs over a stony base, with tart, bright blackcurrant acidity to lift through a lingering perfumed violet finish. Tannins are long and fine, hugging this charming wine through the finish. Surprising freshness for its 14.5%.

Champagne Leclerc Briant
Champagne Leclerc Briant
Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut
This new cuvée from organic Champagne Leclerc Briant sources Chardonnay from across Champagne, including the chalky outposts of Mongeaux and Sézannais. It was native fermented and rested 10 months before going to bottle unfined and unfiltered. This 2018 rested 4 years sur lattes before being disgorged in June 2023, with 1.9 g/L. Green apple, subtle anise, lemon verbena is seasoned with light toast, running long and saline through the humming finish. Great energy and poise here.

Champagne Leclerc Briant Reserve Extra Brut
Champagne Leclerc Briant
Réserve Extra Brut
This negoc house was founded in 1955 when Bertrand Leclerc married Jacqueline Briant. They were an early adopter of organic practices back in the 1960’s, and were one of the first to bottle single-vineyard Champagnes in the 1970’s. In the late 1980’s, Bertrand and Jacqueline’s son, Pascal, began integrating biodynamic principles and part of the production has been Demeter certified since 2003. Today, enologist Hervé Jestin, known for his biodynamics / bioenergetics oversees the wines of the house and its near 30ha of vines, plus another 20ha of organically farmed contract fruit.
This wine, making up 75% of production, is entirely from the 2020 vintage, and is dosed with 4.5 g/L, disgorged in April 2024. This blend of 40/40/20 Pinot Noir / Pinot Meunier / Chardonnay was native fermented in stainless and oak (the latter 20%) before going into bottle for 3 years on lees. This newly released wine is right and fresh with lemon, red and green apple, lightly toasted brioche across a vibrantly humming, stony base, with a well used layer of creamy lees to pad. So fresh, and a joy to drink now.

Tenuta Fanti boasts over 8,500 olive trees of the most prestigious Tuscan varieties, and a traditional olive stone mill. Thanks to the high elevation of the trees, the early picking and the quick crushing of the olives, the oil is characterized by low acidity and complex flavor profile. This oil blends Correggiolo, Leccino and Olivastra, from 15-200 year old trees resting from 200-450m. These were crushed within 24 hours of harvest, and extracted cool. Opalescent green in hue in youth, this tends to yellow with ageing. At present, this is intensely fruity with green tones across a lightly spicy palate.

In 1962, Primo Pacenti founded Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra, in Toscana's stunning Siena countryside. Situated in the Northeast side of the Montalcino hill, the farm extends for nearly 60 hectares, 20 hectares of which are cultivated with vines and 2 hectares with olive groves.
From the olive trees which form the backdrop to their house, this blend of Leccino and Frantoio was cold pressed, revealing an intense colour and a slightly spicy taste, ideal for finishing.

Grüner Veltliner NATURAL
NATURAL is Fritz Wieninger's experimental range of wines, still biodynamic, as is his family's Weingut Wieninger. This is the only NATURAL wine done in stainless, and here it spends 3.5 months on skins prior to bottling without fining, filtration, or sulphur. This Grüner Veltliner comes from an old vineyard in Ried Gabrissen on Vienna's Bisamberg, a sunny south-facing location on loess, with high lime content and a prominent gravel band in the higher part of the vineyard. Bright and tight with lime, white grapefruit, tangerine along a taut, buzzy, and saline laced palate. Shining acidity keeps this lofted through a long finish. Very pure.
