Jean Max L’Ext'hase
From 70 year old gamay in southern Bojo's Charnay rooted its calcareous clay soils, this was native fermented and carbonically macerated, with 9 months in oak, prior to a tightening moon phase rest in stainless, and bottling with low sulphur. A swing of reduction blows off to reveal pink grapefruit, tart red currant, wild flowers, peony on a crunchy, fresh palate. Tannins are long and sticky, and the finish is dusted with white pepper. A characterful charmer, much like the hare on the label. These are made in the cellar of Eric Texier in the Rhône, hence they are labelled as Vin de France. 3850 bottles made, plus 100 magnums. #gogamaygo.

Domaine Montrose
Domaine Montrose
Chardonnay
Domaine Montrose was founded by the Coste family in 1701 in Pézenas, in Languedoc, and today Bernard and Olivier Coste oversee the estate. This chardonnay is rooted in IGP Côtes de Thongue's white chalky clay and dark volcanic pebbles. Each plot was fermented and vinified separately, and then blended. After a short skin contact, this was fermented and aged in stainless to preserve the fresh fruit. Fragrant white blossoms, crisp pear, lemon curd is laced with a buzzy stony mineral underlay which lingers on the finish. Fresh and friendly, and ready for cracking into now.

Pinot Gris Grand Cru Winzenburg
Winzenberg Grand Cru rests between 240-320m, south and south-east facing, on pink granite soils laced with mica and feldspar. Ripe pear, honeycrisp apple, perfumed melon glide along the slender palate, lit with lime zest and peel which linger on the stony finish. Understated, this is a quiet gem.

Canalicchio di Sopra
Canalicchio di Sopra
Rosso di Montalcino
Produced mostly from their youngest vineyards, this Rosso represents their calling card for Canalicchio di Sopra wines: a young, fruity, and versatile expression of their estate Sangiovese. This comes mainly from vineyards located in the Canalicchio Cru, with ample clay, magnesium, iron and Manganese soils. It was macerated and fermented in stainless over three weeks, before resting one year in Slavonian Oak Barrels (50 hl and 25 hl), and French oak barrels (750L). Candle wax, wild cherries, raspberries flood a juicy, structural palate, framed with firm, sticky tannins, and kissed with medicinal cherry on the stony, ferrous finish. Lovely presence and confidence here.

Canalicchio di Sopra
Brunello di Montalcino
From 10+ year old vines around 300m, this Brunello blends fruit from of a blend of two different soils: clays rich in Magnesium, Iron, and Manganese from the Cru Canalicchio; and galestro soils with a very high mineral component, characteristic of the Cru Montosoli. It was fermented in stainless, with 3 weeks on skins, prior to 36 months in Slavonian oak casks of 2500 and 5000L.
"With a hint of candied cherry, grenadine or Shirley Temple, the Canalicchio di Sopra 2019 Brunello di Montalcino reveals purple blossom, dried flower, cough drop and balsam herb. The wine is very nicely stitched together with integrated oak that comes through in a structural way but not too much on the bouquet. The tannins do feel dry on the mid-palate, but they remain fine and tight. The alcohol is a bit high in this vintage at 15%. Production is 47,321 bottles. Drink 2025 - 2040.” - 94 points, Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

Bodegas Hermanos Pecina
Bodegas Hermanos Peciña
Señorio de P. Peciña Tinto Crianza
Bodegas Hermanos de Peciña is firmly planted in traditional Rioja, one of perhaps a dozen of producers adhering to the tenets passed down through generations. This includes long aging in mostly neutral American oak of 4-10 years, regular open-air racking by hand (called trasiego), and then further aging in bottle often well beyond the specifications required by the DO. Founder Pedro Peciña had over two decades of working in Rioja Alta before opening his own Bodega in 1992. This wine is a blend of Tempranillo (95%), Graciano (3%), and Garnacha (2%), from various calcareous-clay vineyards, and vines averaging 40 years old. The wine ages 2 years in used American oak barrels, and 1.5 years in bottle prior to release. Classic cherries, toasted coconut, cigar, and spice floods the medium palate, and fine-grained, grippy tannins, to a persistent finish.
“I love the classical nose of spice, berries and herbs of the 2016 Señorío de P. Peciña Crianza, a textbook ultra-classical Rioja that matured in used American oak barrels for 24 months, during which time it was racked by gravity every six months. These wines are fermented with indigenous yeasts and a soft vinification without much extraction of long macerations. It's expressive, polished and very pleasant, really what I expect in this style, with some developed notes and a gentle mouthfeel. 100,000 bottles produced. Very good introduction to a classical Crianza at a very attractive price. It was bottled in April 2021. Drink 2022-2028.” - 93 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate, July 14, 2022.

Podere 414
Podere 414
Morellino di Scansano
Owned by Simone Castelli, Podere 414 is a certified organic estate with 13 hectares of vines, situated in western Tuscany, straddling a river near Scansano. From the region's very stony soils, this morellino (sangiovese) is splashed with colorino, ciliegiolo, alicante, and syrah. Each variety is vinified separately before the blend goes into two-year-old barriques for one year, followed by additional bottle age before release. Wild flowers and scrubby herbs infuse a dusky palate of black cherry, blackberry, inky violet and crushed stones. Acidity is bright and lofty, and tannins are ample but softened with some time, providing a firm hug to this full bodied wine. The finish lingers with medicinal cherry rung with ample salinity.
“Pronounced aromas of black cherry and wild berries with an edge of earthiness. Full on the palate with linear tannins, crisp acidity and a juicy finish. 414 is the house number attributed to the property by the former land reform authority in the 1960s. Nowadays, owner Simone Castelli is one of the rising stars in the Maremma due to his Morellino, cultivated according to organic principles. A blend of 85% Sangiovese with a mix of Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Alicante and Syrah, fermented in concrete vats and aged in mixed wood for 12 months.” 92 points, Filippo Magnani, Decanter

Filipa Pato & William Wouters
Dinâmica D.N.M.C. Baga
This biodynamic Baga is sourced partially from Filipa and William’s estate vineyards in Ois do Bairro, and partially from other growers in various villages in Bairrada. There’s a mix of bush vines and trellised plants with an average age of 40 years. The younger vines have been propagated by massale selection from the old vines in an effort to maintain diversity and select the best plant material available. Handpicked, fully destemmed, and fermented and raised entirely in tank this has a very gentle extraction and long (4 week) maceration, adding the fine, firm structure here. Lifted and bright with blackcurrant, wild plum is stencilled with thorns and scented with rockrose and pink peppercorns along the buzzy textural palate. Acidity is crunchy, and tannins are finely downy, all encouraging enjoying liberally now, with a light chill.

Rosé Blaufränkisch
From Burgenland’s Eisenstaedter vineyard, this organic Blaufrankisch is from vines 34-49 years old, rooted in calcareous clays and gravels, at 180-220m. It was native fermented in steel, where it remained for a brief time on lees before bottling. The delicate pink hue is mirrored with the delicate blossoms opening the palate, followed by crunchy and fresh pink grapefruit, perfumed Asian pear, tangerine, all lit with a buzzy energy running the length of this sleek, bone dry pink. Crémant d'Alsace Rosé de Noirs Brut
Situated 30 km southwest of Strasbourg, J.M. Sohler is a boutique estate family producer nestled in the hamlet of Blienschwiller. This rosé comes entirely from Pinot Noir, and was gently whole bunch pressed before resting on lees until the following spring, when it heads to the bottle and a minimum 24 months rest on lees. This was disgorged to order, though the base year and disgorge date is not shown on the label. Ripe strawberry, cherry, mandarin rules the silken palate, with fine bubbles, and finer spicing through a brief, bitter kissed finish.

Dialogo Branco Diálogo
Niepoort Vinhos
Diálogo Branco
This youthful white may show a Canadian-themed comic on the label, but make no mistake, this is a serious wine, from one of the world's top winemakers, Dirk Niepoort. From schistous, mica-flecked vineyards on the right bank of the Douro, between 550-700m, this blend of indigenous Portuguese white grapes is native fermented in a split between stainless and older French barriques (30 percent), with no MLF, and remains there for eight months. The blend is 20-50 year old rabigato, códega do larinho, gouveio, dona branca, viosinho, bical and others. This year's edition is quite reductive at present, with an earthy, leesy, stony underlay bedding green apple, lemon, green fig, finishing with a lingering salinity.

Dalila and Emanuela Gianfreda are fifth generation winemakers at Jorche, overseeing the 31 hectares of vines surrounding their Salento estate. This Primitivo grows in the red, iron-oxide rich sandstones throughout the property, and was aged 9 months in barrels and 3 months in bottle prior to release. This mouthfilling red is stencilled with ferrous notes, woven with wild plum, rockrose, wild blackberry, and scrubby Mediterranean herbs. Tannins are ample and sticky, hugging the sides of this full-bodied wine through the pink pepper finish. Fantastic value for this lamb-ready red.

Dialogo Tinto
Niepoort Vinhos
Diálogo Tinto
This youthful red may show a (Canadian themed!) comic on the label, but make no mistake, this is a serious wine, from one of the world's top winemakers, Dirk Niepoort. This is a blend of touriga franca, touriga nacional, tinta roriz, tinta amarela from the Cima Corgo's schistous soils, and vines up to 40 years in age. This was native fermented in stainless, and aged in a mix of stainless and oak for 6 months. Fresh and fragrant, with black raspberry, cherry, plum filling a juicy core. Wrapped with slight, sticky tannins, and buoyed by bright acidity, this friendly, smart red is primed for drinking now, all at a welcome 12.5%.
“Old vines (up to 40 years of age) and schistous soils of the Cima Corgo gift plenary interest into this traditional blend of touriga franca, touriga nacional, tinta roriz and tinta amarela. A hearty mineral expression, as dark fruited as it is stony and hematic because a sensation gained is indeed a bloody one, manifested as a taste that’s laden with cool, slick and salty mineral. The tannins are liquid chalky and very much a part of the control to indicate some life laid out ahead. Drink anytime and feel comfortable that five years will offer up much of the same. Drink 2024-2028. Tasted April 2024.” - 90 points, Michael Godel, WineAlign.com
“Niepoort's 2021 Diálogo Douro red is a bright and lively, fruit forward, gently spicy-reductive red blend with lively acids and low, supple tannins. It's the sort of juicy red to chill light and enjoy in its fruity youth. Impeccably balanced, attractively priced, and ready to go. Tasted April 2024.” - 89 points, John Szabo, MS, WineAlign.com

Olivier Coste Illegal Mourvèdre
This wine comes from a small appellation in Languedoc, but 100% mourvèdre is illegal there, thus, the winery declassified it to Vin de France and hid its origin. Destemmed grapes were macerated and fermented in stainless for 3 weeks, and kept there for a brief time before bottling in late winter. Tight and crunchy plum, boysenberry, wild blueberry flood the bright palate, with fine, sticky tannins to pin in the sides and welcome food pairing (sausages). Brighter and tighter than previous vintages.

La Goutte du Seigneur Côtes du Rhône
The name of this organic and biodynamically farmed cuvée refers to their family name, translating as "Drop of the Lord". La Goutte du Seigneur is an easy drinking blend of Grenache and Syrah, from 30 year old, vines rooted in the estate’s clay limestone soils. This underwent 2 weeks of maceration in concrete tank before a native ferment, and saw no time in oak. Tight blackcurrant, red currant, red cherry is gripped with a graphite minerality, and fine, lightly sticky tannins. Acidity is bright, easily freshening its 14%. Drinking smartly now. Great value.

Domaine Montrose
Mont Rose Rosé
This elegant, pale rosé is a blend of Grenache and Cinsault from Languedoc's calcareous clay, volcanic gravels. Dry and crisp, with hints of summer berry, florals, and Mediterranean citrus, this vibrant rosé finishes with a rasp of tannins, making it particularly food-friendly.
“From a historically significant estate just outside of Pézenas that has been producing wine as far back as the 16th century, this bright and salty blend of grenache and cinsault sourced from calcareous clay and volcanic gravels is delicately perfumed with notes of fresh blossom, pink grapefruit. On the palate sea salt, lavender and wild thyme are reminiscent of the French Mediterranean coast. Vibrant, cleanly made, and well-priced. Punches above its designation. Tasted April 2024.” - 90 points, Sara d’Amato, WineAlign.com
“Arch-classic Languedoc style of Rosé representative of the last two decades. Pale and calming for a chill on hot pool, pond and sea days. That said the levels of unction and even creaminess are creeping up, noted here with Coste’s neither immune nor in avoidance of the sliding and changing scale. You gotta stick with this a bit to notice and appreciate the new modifications rising to establish such a nuanced Rosé. A good thing and more for now available for everyone to get involved. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted April 2024.” - 90 points, Michael Godel, WineAlign.com

Cremant du Jura Blanc Brut Crémant
Domaine Rolet
Crémant du Jura Blanc Brut
During his presidency of the Société de viticulture du Jura, Pierre Rolet was instrumental in the creation of the AOC Crémant du Jura in 1995. This traditional method sparkling wine was previously simply referred to as a mousseux. This traditional method sparkling is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 10% Savagnin, with equal parts Trousseau, Poulsard, and Pinot Noir filling out the rest, coming off estate vineyards in Arbois, Passenas, and Le Vernnois. The wine was whole cluster pressed and fermented at low temperature (18°C) in stainless, with no MLF, and spent a minimum of 1 year on lees in bottle prior to disgorge. Dosage 6g/L. The creamy palate is shaped by tight green apple, crunchy pear, ripe red apple, and light meringue, finishing with a lemon peel twist and a lingering chalkiness, thanks to the region's marl soils.

This blend of Roupeiro, Rabo de Ovelha, Antão Vaz, Tamarez, Alicante Branco, and Arinto are sourced from 2 organic vineyards in Alentejo's granitic and limestone soils, and vines from 30-50 years, up to 400m in altitude. After a whole bunch press and a native ferment in primarily stainless barrels (the second pressing goes into older barrels), this remained there on lees for six months before bottling. Pine nuts, quince, and green fig ride along a honeysuckle-slicked palate, seasoned amply with buzzy granite grip. Lovely balance and flow here.

Arbois Trousseau
Trousseau vines (30 years old) were planted in Montigny-les-Arsures, on hillsides on the localities of Chagnon and L'Euvrin, as well as Arbois' Montesserin. The marl and clay soils are ideal for the trousseau, as proven by this charming wine. After destemming and a few days of maceration, it was fermented in stainless for three weeks and then aged for 9 months in a split of stainless and foudre. Pouring a light, dusky crimson hue, this streams wild raspberry, perfumed cherry, forest wild flowers, and a finely buzzy texture, all wrapped with slightly tuggy tannins. This current release means the winery has done all the aging for you. Drink now, ideally with wild mushroom dishes.
“Classic Jura by cause of its oxidative and rustic stylistic with the local Trousseau and ambience getting together for what’s expected and necessary. This is red wine for those who know and want what this is want to give. Rosy red fruit, musky and gentle, very resolved and ready to please. This is the kind of wine for those who like to sit back and dream, not thinking too much, just sipping and letting imagination create the diversion. Drink 2023-2025. NATURAL is Fritz Wieninger's experimental range of wines, still biodynamic, as is his family's Weingut Wieninger. This is the only NATURAL wine done in stainless, and here it spends 3.5 months on skins prior to bottling without fining, filtration, or sulphur. This Grüner Veltliner comes from an old vineyard in Ried Gabrissen on Vienna's Bisamberg, a sunny south-facing location on loess, with high lime content and a prominent gravel band in the higher part of the vineyard. Bright and tight with lime, white grapefruit, tangerine along a taut, buzzy, and saline laced palate. Shining acidity keeps this lofted through a long finish. Very pure.

Chinon Rouge Les Picasses
Jean-Maurice Raffault and Rodolphe Raffault’s family began cultivating vines in Chinon 14 generations ago, when their ancestor, Mathurin Bottreau, bought his first parcel of vines in 1693. Today, Domaine Jean-Maurice Raffault owns 50 organically farmed hectares of vines in 7 communes. This cabernet franc is from the Les Picasses lieu dit, atop a plateau overlooking the Vienne, the windiness of the site reflected in the windmill on the label. Soils here are stony limestone and clay. After destemming and a native ferment this moves to barriques for MLF and aging 12 months on fine lees. Super perfumed, with ample fragrant plums, wild blackberry, thorns, and crushed florals on a medium palate, gripped with ample firm, gritty tannins, and finishing with a lingering peppery note. Mirco Mariotti makes natural wines in the Bosco Eliceo area in the eastern part of Emilia-Romagna. The vines grow 300 meters from the Adriatic sea and many are well over 100 years old. They are gnarly non-grafted vines with roots that dig as deep as two meters in the sandy soil and into the aquifer below. Mariotti’s wines are named after local card games the locals play. This pét-nat of 70% trebbiano and 30% malvasia di candia is from 50-100 year old vines. Lightly fizzy, with white melon, tart tangerine, white pepper on a brisk, lightly astringent palate. Refreshing and lively at 12%.

Il Palagio
Il Palagio
When We Dance Chianti
Tuscany's Tenuta Il Palagio has been a vine growing and wine making estate since the 16th century. For the last two decades it's been the summer home of Sting and Trudie Styler, who have transformed the estate into a vibrant organic farm and vineyard. Over that time, they've worked with consultants Alan York and Pedro Parra to design the vineyards and farming practices. This Sangiovese is splashed with Canaiolo and Colorino, and was fermented and aged in stainless for six months. This medium bodied wine is open and welcoming, with morello cherry, red florals, crunchy plum, a lick of leather, and fine dried herbs. Acidity is bright, and tannins are fine, guiding this to a lightly peppered and amply saline finish. Ready for cracking now, ideally with a simple tomato sauced pasta.

Canalicchio di Sopra
Canalicchio di Sopra
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
In 1962, Primo Pacenti founded Azienda Agricola Canalicchio di Sopra, in Toscana's stunning Siena countryside. Situated in the Northeast side of the Montalcino hill, the farm extends for nearly 60 hectares, 20 hectares of which are cultivated with vines and 2 hectares with olive groves.
From the olive trees which form the backdrop to their house, this blend of Leccino and Frantoio was cold pressed, revealing an intense colour and a slightly spicy taste, ideal for finishing.

Saffron
Since the Middle Ages saffron was produced across Toscana, including on the Fanti family estate, and it remains a fragrant and precious ingredient of the region. Following Fanti’s bottling of their estate olive oils, they’ve recently been harvesting and packaging organic saffron from their Val d’Orcia estate. We are proud to import this into Canada as part of our Provisions portfolio, and it makes a thoughtful complement to our range of Fanti olive oils, and wines.

Pink grapefruit, crunchy honeycrisp apple, tangerine runs the sleek palate, dusted with white pepper and lingering with white blossoms.
