Mixed Case Fuller Reds

Only 4 available

MIXED CASE : FULLER REDS 25

Each case contains two bottles of the following wines:

Olivier Coste Old Star Carignan 2021, IGP Pays d'Oc, Languedoc, France. $21
Since his childhood, Olivier Coste’s favourite places to play have been the vineyards and the family wine cellar at Domaine Montrose, his family’s wine estate founded in 1701 in Pézenas. With this upbringing, Olivier developed a profound attachment to the Languedoc’s terroir and landscape, and later to its wines. This was fermented and aged in stainless, to preserve the purity of the older bush vines. Baked plum, boysenberry is lit with a buzzy acidity, and framed with fine, sticky tannins, finishing with cracked stones and a dusting of pepper. A substantial red, yet a lovely 13% take on Carignan.

DogRidge The Pup Shiraz 2019, McLaren Vale, Australia. $25
DogRidge’s sustainably farmed vineyards are home to some of the oldest vines in McLaren Vale, with 60+ year old Shiraz, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon growing on their McLaren Flat site. THE PUP is a cheeky, robust Shiraz, with candied plum, ripe cherry, light smoke, and fine, rugged tannins. Soft, ripely sweet, and ready to crack now, with meat on the barbie.

Selvapiana Chianti 2022, DOCG Chianti Rufina, Italy. $31
Rufina is the smallest appellation in Chianti, extending across 750 hectares. This is 95% Sangiovese, joined with tips of Canaiolo, Colorino, and Malvasia Nera from well-drained, dry and stony north and north-west facing vineyards. These 15-40 year old vines grow in medium density clay and limestone at 200-300m. Fermentation and maceration occurs in stainless over 25 days with native yeast, before aging 75% in cement, 10% in foudre, and 15% in stainless. Bright and lifted cherry, ripe raspberry is kissed with wild orange, and dosed liberally with flake salts. Tannins are fine and sticky, hugging this medium red to a gently spiced finish. A subtle and pretty Rufina, ready to enjoy now with fragrant mushroom dishes.

Le Ragnaie Troncone 2022, IGT Toscana Rosso, Toscana, Italy. $32
Montalcino has an altitude limit in Brunello; it's not allowed to grow above 600m. This organically farmed Sangiovese is grown from 620-655m altitude, hence it fell into the declassification of IGT Chianti Colli Senesi. In 2014, the wine was too pale and wasn't even approved for that, so Riccardo Campinoti said BASTA and labelled the wines IGT Toscana Rosso. Troncone means stump, and was the nickname of Riccardo's grandfather. There is also a large stump in the sandstone, limestone and clay vineyard, giving this wine's name a double meaning. Ragnaie is the name of the vineyard, Etruscan for spiderweb, and reflecting the label and the netting that Etruscans would use to catch small birds. This 14 year old organically farmed sangiovese was native fermented and on skins for 2 weeks in concrete, before one year in older Slavonian oak casks. Alluring from first whiff, with salted cherry, fragrant raspberry, worked leather and dried scrubby herbs stretching across a lifted palate, framed with firm, fine tannins, and buoyed by effortless lofty acidity, finishing with a flush of peppery spice. There's such a lovely ease and grace to this medium bodied youthful wine. Enjoy liberally.

Niepoort Dialogo Tinto 2021, DOC Douro, Portugal. $20
This youthful red may show a (Canadian themed!) comic on the label, but make no mistake, this is a serious wine, from one of the world's top winemakers, Dirk Niepoort. This is a blend of Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela from the Cima Corgo's schistous soils, and vines up to 40 years in age. This was native fermented in stainless, and aged in a mix of stainless and oak for 6 months. Fresh and fragrant, with black raspberry, cherry, plum filling a juicy core. Wrapped with slight, sticky tannins, and buoyed by bright acidity, this friendly, smart red is primed for drinking now, all at a welcome 12.5%.

Xisto Ilimitado Tinto 2021, DOC Douro, Portugal. $31
Ilimitado is a soil survey of the schist-driven terroir in the Douro, regardless of grapes. This year, field blends of grapes from Cotas and Ervedosa do Douro in the Cima Corgo were sourced, with vines between 35 and 60 years, planted in Patamares and large terraces from 400-550m, predominantly on loamy clays and yellow slate. 40% of the grapes were fermented whole cluster in Lagares, foot trodden, with 8-10 days maceration. The remaining 70% fermented whole cluster in stainless tanks, with 20 to 30 days maceration. Both lots aged for 14 months in used French barrels. Scrubby herbs, fragrant rockrose, wild blackberry, and juicy plum are woven throughout the medium palate, pinned by finely grippy / schistous tannins and lofted by elevation, finishing with a graphite ferrous kiss. Super smart snapshot, drinking beautifully now and with time ahead.
